We will recommend slow growing plants (fittonia, succulent, air plants) to be placed in your closed terrarium / open terrarium glass containers or glass jars. For closed terrariums, you can select tropical plant varieties as mosses, terms and air plants as it’s similar to the humid environment of the tropics. For open terrariums, you can select indoor plants that prefer less humidity such as temperate plants and minimal sunlight or plants that require more direct sunlight. For a more customised approach, you can also use exotic plants or other small unique plants. You can find these plants and glass containers at plant boutiques or terrarium shops in Singapore! Plants that are found in closed terrariums or open terrariums do not require frequent watering. The greenhouse-like structure of your closed terrariums or open terrariums also helps to recycle water. For closed terrariums, we will recommend you to water them once every 3-5 weeks. If your own mini terrarium garden is well maintained, it can last for a few years!

There are a few types of light you can provide for your terrarium, direct sunlight, indirect sunlight or artificial light. We will recommend you to use LED bulbs if you are thinking to use artificial light. Do remember to remove the lid on a closed terrarium if they are placed under direct sunlight to avoid killing any plants in your closed terrarium.
