Xavier Neo, a former sous chef at three Michelin-starred Les Amis, and his wife, Alice Lai, opened Hokkien Man as another example of ex-restaurant chefs quitting their jobs at renowned restaurants to start their own hawker businesses.

The best aspect is the great wok hei that’s present in each serving. The takeaway box will give you something to enjoy at home and you can ensure that the quality remains consistent, even after being delayed due to travel!

Very delicious ! I’ve always pass by this stall near a coffee shop without the opportunity to try it as they closes early (by 2:30PM). This is the semi wet version, flavours are amazing and the seafood is very fresh, the sotong (not shown in picture) was transparent in colour. Some wait required, order at the stall and you will be given a buzzer to signal when the food is ready.

You should add Kim Keat Hokkien Mee to your list if you’re looking for great old-school Hokkien mee.

This is one of the crowd’s favorites. It’s served in a claypot and seasoned with roasted pork belly rather than fish sauce. The Claypot Hokkien Mee’s tender and fragrant noodles are soaked in the rich stock, making it ideal for soaking. This is especially great for fans of the wet version.

Key Differentiators

  • Serve Singapore’s favourite local delight
  • Claypot Hokkien Mee
  • Fragrant noodles

Customer Testimonial

Decided to try this claypot Hokkien Mee. Ordered 2 person @ $10, this is the smallest size they have.
The chilli is super shiok, squeeze a bit of lime on the chilli and eat it together with the noodle. PERFECT! both uncle and aunty are very friendly and their portion is generous.
At first we thought it was too much gravy, but as well eat, the gravy was absorbed by the noodle and the texture of the noodle was just right!

Have you heard of the Golden Mile Food Centre’s Hainan Fried Hokkien Prawn Mee? The father of the owners of Hainan is the man behind the wok at Liang Ji Fried Hokkien Prawn Mee, which is why you’d be thrilled to learn!

The distinctive vintage tri-colored floral plate used to serve the Hokkien Mee at Liang Ji is well known to Hainanese. As previously said, this plate has a dry texture and the gravy is absorbed into each strand of noodle. Liang Ji’s no-frills meal is a good dry-style option in Singapore, which is not often seen.

Key Differentiators

  • Dry-styled option
  • Father of the owners of Hainan
  • Vintage tri-colored floral plate

Customer Testimonial

Very unassuming Hokkien mee, ordered the $5 plate ($5/10/15)

Either you love or hate this plate of goodness

Noodles have very much soaked in the essence of the stock and has rich wok hey flavour

Pork lard was well made and delicious

Mee to bee Hoon ratio very balanced and moist level was just nice, may be different if take away.

Nam Sing Hokkien Mee is a well-known Nam Sing restaurant located near Old Airport Road. Because the staff has switched to bulk preparation to reduce wait times, you won’t find much wok action here. Unfortunately, no customized orders are possible due to this!

The Hokkien Mee is a dish of thick yellow noodles and thin white bee hoon, which are chopped up quite short. There isn’t any sambal chilli or lard in this dish, either.

Key Differentiators

  • Famous hawker stall
  • Thick yellow noodles
  • No customized orders

Customer Testimonial

One of my favourite hokkien mee! Worth the wait. Noodles are very flavourful, and has a fresh taste. Initially wished it came with sambal chili like other hokkien mee, but the cut red chili matches it quite well too

Swee Guan Hokkien Mee is the original Geylang Lorong 29 Hokkien Mee stall, but it was renamed because of the current owner but belongs to the same family.

The concept of utilizing a charcoal fire is one that many people can appreciate. In every bowl of Hokkien Mee, the components are consistently generous. The prices here appear to some to be quite expensive for the quantity, but each person has his own beliefs!

Is it possible for a 21-year-old to make a decent plate of Hokkien Mee? You Fu is perhaps most recognized for its young chef, who has been assisting his father since he was 14.

His frying is excellent, with a plate that’s brimming with both wok hei and prawn sweetness, proving that you don’t need to be an old pro to master this dish. When it comes to preparing a decent Hokkien Mee, more experienced hawkers in Singapore struggle.

Key Differentiators

  • Youngest hawkerpreneur
  • Crowd favorite Hokkie Mee
  • Food Stand

Customer Testimonial

Always feel HKM has to be fried with thin beehoon, so this is perfect. Simmered with flavorful prawn broth and enough wok hei, this HKM is now amongst my top 3. Do try it if you are around the area.

In Singapore, Toa Payoh is home to many Hokkien Mee eateries, but Tian Tian Lai is by far the most well-known. Their style is thicker than wet, with a puddle of incredibly savory stock covering the plate.

The dish is made with generous portions of succulent roast pork, fried garlic, crispy onions, and a delicious sauce. It also includes a large portion of crunchy fried pork lard to add richness to the mixture.

Key Differentiators

  • Pre-order, take away, or tray order
  • Generous portions
  • Rich mixture

Customer Testimonial

Came here on a Saturday around 11am. First thing you want to do is place an order and get a buzzer. The Hokkien Mee is really good and this version has slightly more sauce. I did ask for more fried pork lard ‘crackling’ bits, and it really adds another dimension of flavor and texture. Excellent dish with a fair bit of depth. If anything, I’d say it could use more “wok hei” / char taste. Very satisfying, as I was eating, I placed an additional order for my family.

  • First for any hotel dining outlet in Singapore
  • Hugely popular Mandarin Chicken Rice

Customer Testimonial

Fantastic place! The ambience is really good and the service is nice. The chicken rice was so tasty(not pictured). Beef hor fun was tasty as well and I would recommend it too. Had the coconut dessert, yummy but too big for one person!

Pieces of prawn and squid are hidden in the sauce: This is fascinating since it may be why the seafood has a savory taste. Prawns and squid are placed in the sauce, absorbing the stock and natural tastes of the other components.

Pork stock rather than strips, bellies, or lard: This indicates that seafood enthusiasts and people who avoid pork fat will appreciate Ah Hock’s purity. The light bee hoon noodles are cooked in a gravy made from pork stock.

Key Differentiators

  • Generous portion
  • Savory taste
  • Pork stock

Customer Testimonial

This is the original Singapore dry version when stock has to be fully infuse into the noodle which is not flavored by some who prefer the muar wet version. They do not have pork because the uncle who used to cut the pork passed away due to poor health many years ago. Ah hock himself went for many years break before coming back.

In Singapore, the most popular Hokkien Mee is prepared with thick yellow noodles. Xie Kee’s dish features flat yellow noodles, which gave it a slightly different yet intriguing crunch. The thick gooey stock, as well as the sweet and zesty punch of the chilli, will appeal to fans of both wet Hokkien Mee and sweet chilli.

Key Differentiators

  • Crowd favorite
  • Thick yellow noodles
  • Intriguing crunch

Customer Testimonial

Clearly one of the best hokkien mee in Singapore, I haven’t found anything that comes close tbh. The stock is great, the flavors mix in really really well between the lime, chilli, stock, prawn and noodles. It’s a shame a lot of people here don’t appreciate true talent. Best $3-5 you can ever spend your money on. Please continue to spread your good work uncle.
