Coney Island

If you’re looking for a summertime getaway, look no further than Coney Island! This historic northeastern coast in Singapore has something for everyone. From cycling to beaches, there’s plenty to do on this vibrant island. We’ve got all the information you need to make the most of your visit to this island park.

In this guide, we’ll tell you everything you need to know about visiting Coney Island. We’ll give you tips on how to get around. So read on and start planning your trip today!

Before Visiting the Park

One adorable feature that makes Coney Island adorable is its signages. All of the signage in the park, benches, and the boardwalk over the mangrove swamp is made from wood from fallen trees. It’s time to go on a journey to Coney Island Park!

With that being said, it is evident that the place is really well taken care of, so If you are planning to visit the park, here are some tips you must remember.

First things first, always check their website (click here) regarding updates about the island and know when the park closes and opens. The park is closed from 7 in the evening until 7 in the morning. Plus, keep in mind that the route is steep, often rocky, and uneven in places making it difficult for youngsters and people with mobility issues to walk it. Also, there is no electricity or piped water on the island to preserve the park’s rustic atmosphere and natural habitats.

For protection from insects like sandflies, wear pants and shoes that are covered. Of course, follow only the direction of marked paths and avoid going into restricted areas such as vegetated and forested regions. Apart from the flora in the area, we have to take care of and preserve the fauna too, thus it is advisable to appreciate the animals only from a distance.

Speaking of animals, always remember to not consume or carry plastic bags in the presence of macaques. Plastic bags may have been conditioned to associate food with them, and feeding macaques will encourage them to be more daring.

Avoid going to the park during a storm, or seek refuge as soon as possible if it rains while you are inside the park. Another important detail to remember is to keep in mind that entry to the Haw Par Beach Villa is strictly prohibited.

Lastly, always remember to take only the items you brought with you, and leave no traces except for your footprints. Now, you are ready for your visit!

During the Visit:

1. Nature Playgarden

The Casuarina Exploration, which is a portion of this site, was built from cut-down Casuarina trees and other recycled materials. The ground material was created using sand taken from the adjacent beach. Apart from being environmentally responsible, the usage of these materials lends the adventure area an old-fashioned feel.

2. Bird Watching

Bird watching is a popular activity at Coney Island Park. Migratory birds make this a common stopover. Wait amid the hides or blend into the trees on the forested paths for an interesting experience with nature!

3. Cycling

The park’s hilly terrain makes cycling bumpy at times, but keep in mind that it’s a windy and pleasant experience. With the beautiful views of Serangoon Reservoir from time to time, cycle along the 2.5km Coney Island Park Connector. Alternatively, follow the directions to get to the beaches.

4. Beaches

There are five beaches on the island’s northern shore that are labeled Beach Area A to E. The islands of Johor and Pulau Ubin may be observed from them. The beaches have been left ungrazed, which attracts a lot of sandflies. On the beach areas, you’re urged to wear long pants and shoes that cover your body to avoid being bitten or unwanted experiences.

5. Nature Photography

With a careful eye, take in the scenery. You just might be able to snap a few decent photographs! When uploading pictures, photographers are encouraged to hashtag #nparksbuzz.

6. Nature Walks

Are you interested in learning more about Singapore’s Coney Island’s biodiversity and history? In June, November, and December, join a two-hour guided walk led by National Parks Board Singapore volunteers.

Alternatively, if you don’t want to bike, feel free to go for a long walk around the park on your own. If you stick to the designated paths and view the animals from afar, you’ll be rewarded with some wonderful sightings!

7. Sunset hike

The grounds of Coney Island are open until 7 pm, so you may still do an evening walk if you arrive early. In fact, the sunsets at Coney Island are beautiful. Watch as the sun sets through the tall trees as you stroll along the main track or sit on the steps by the water to see a clear view of both sunset

After Visiting the Park

After you’ve spent a day hiking through Coney Island, you’ll probably want to upload all of your pictures to social media and share your experience with your friends. But before you do that, take a minute to think about how you can promote the island park and help preserve its natural beauty.

First, do some research on the park’s history and ecology. This will give you a better understanding of its importance and allow you to share interesting facts with your friends. Then, consider writing a review of the park or sharing your favorite photos on the park’s website or social media page, (Don’t forget to use #nparksbuzz).

By taking a few extra steps, you can help ensure that future generations will be able to enjoy the same natural wonders Coney Island offered to you.
