The crispy chicken skin at Todmorden is synonymous with the restaurant’s renowned taste. This magnificent piece of chicken Maryland has achieved mythical status. Despite the fact that there are now several locations across Sydney, it was in Cabramatta where this eatery first began its humble start in 1993. While there may be a long line at times, remember that your patience is worth it.

Key Differentiators:

  • Magnificent piece of chicken Maryland

  • Traditional vibe

Customer’s Review:

I thoroughly enjoyed the meal here. Crispy chicken a must order. The pho is generously sized and herbal tasting, didn’t mind it. Vietnamese Iced coffee lacked oomph, do not order, pretty tasteless.

Vinh Phat, which opened in 1985, is a popular choice for high-quality Chinese/Vietnamese cuisine. On a weekend, you’ll see a line that extends as far as the eye can see when you arrive at Vinh Phat. Customer’s Review:

Food was really tasty and cheap. Enjoyed both Yum Cha and dinner. We didn’t have to wait when we went Yum Cha on a Sat morning around 9:30am. You could book a table for dinner though, just they have a min spend per person at the moment.

That’s the dish of the day, and it’s phở. Make that your only meal
ever. Choose from 15 different types of phở on the wall menus, order from tablet-wielding staff, and your bowl will arrive in 60 seconds. With tripe, cartilage, and chicken hearts, brave souls can plunge into the offal-filled depths of phở; hungry hippos can upgrade to the large bowl (caution: it’s a big!). • Has 15 different types of phở on the wall menus
  • Bowls arrive in 60 seconds

I have no hesitation in saying that while this place is simple and unsophisticated, it is indeed a truly amazing dining experience! New to pho I had tried a couple of times to make my own with limited success. This is the benchmark place and the signature taste has people flocking back again and again.

10) Pho Pasteur

Key ServiceServes the best steaming bowl of rice noodles
Address27 Greenfield Parade, Bankstown NSW 2200, Australia
Websitehttp://www.anrestaurant.com.au/
Phone02 9796 7826
Operating Hours7 days a week from 6.30am to 9.00pm, kitchen closes at 8.45pm

Phở Pasteur is the ultimate throwback: in 20 years, both the menu and dĂ©cor here have stayed almost unchanged. The restaurant’s name is a little draggy. Pasteur Street in Ho Chi Minh City is named after the French chemist Louis Pasteur, and it’s home to a concentration of pho eateries. As a result, it’s only natural to go with the pho tai, which is a steaming bowl of rice noodles in broth garnished with raw beef and onion.

Key Differentiators:

  • The menu and dĂ©cor here have stayed almost unchanged
  • 20 years in business
  • Named after the French chemist Louis Pasteur

Customer’s Review:

It’s the only Vietnamese shop I will go for my pho on my Monthly affair when I come to Sydney. The special beef pho is so delicious. Portion is huge, broth is sweet and yummy, the beef meat quality is so good. Goes so well with the chilly. Must come to try!

11) Great Aunty Three

Key ServiceServes one of Sydney’s finest bánh mì
Address115 Enmore Road Newtown, NSW, Australia 2042
Websitehttp://www.greatauntythree.com/
Phone+61 2 9281 8882
Emailinfo@greatauntythree.com
Operating HoursDaily 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM
Closed on Tuesdays

At this Enmore street joint, one of Sydney’s finest bĂĄnh mĂŹ is served. The Vietnamese pork rolls at this tiny Enmore corner store are not the same as those you’ll find at your local hot bread shop. Instead of ordinary pig cold cuts, try roast pork and crackling topped with green apple or roast duck with watercress. Heaven in a roll is achieved with the combination of slow-cooked meats, cucumber, carrot, daikon, and patĂ©. Some ground rules include: keep plenty of napkins on hand, always accept Sriracha, and drink a flavorful fruit shake. You’ve got yourself a full dinner there.

Key Differentiators:

  • Serves one of Sydney’s finest bĂĄnh mĂŹ
  • The Vietnamese pork rolls are not the same as those you’ll find at your local hot bread shop
  • Serves traditional pho

Customer’s Review:

You know a happy chef is cooking your food for sure. Pho broth tasted flavourful but a little too sweet for me. Wouldn’t recommend their fried items, the rolls I ordered was drenched in oil. The place felt cramped so takeaway might be a better choice.

12) Bau Truong

Key ServiceServes south Vietnamese noodles soups
Address42 John Street
Cabramatta, NSW
Websitehttps://www.bautruong.com.au/
Phone(02) 9727 4492
Operating HoursMonday to Thursday 9am to 9 pm
Friday, Saturday and Sunday 9am to 10pm

Kudos to the interior designers at this Sydney Vietnamese restaurant, Bau Truong. The Marrickville location is more attractive than the Cabramatta and Canley Vale outposts, which are more down-to-earth family restaurants. Our selection for lesser-known south Vietnamese noodles soups is the Cabramatta shop. BĂșn máșŻm has a powerful, salty, and complex flavor that isn’t for the faint of heart.

Key Differentiators:

  • More attractive than the Cabramatta and Canley Vale outposts
  • Location is a more down-to-earth family restaurant
  • Serves south Vietnamese noodles soups

Customer’s Review:

Busy place with a wide variety of dishes. The food was fresh and tasted delicious. The beef stew was the highlight as the broth was clean and flavourful. The beef was melt in your mouth tender. Service was prompt too!

Emailenquiries@phophd.com.au
Operating HoursMon – Thu 5:30pm – 9:30pm &
Fri – Sun 11:30am – 9:30pm

If your restaurant name implies you have a doctorate in phở, make an amazing bowl of the stuff or get one. And if you do an excellent job with it, why not open two restaurants in the same neighborhood? Marrickville is fortunate to have two Pho PHDs within walking distance of each other, where red bowls of phở bĂČ are served. The beef is delicate, the broth is clear, and there aren’t too many shallots or onions in it. A vermicelli noodle salad, topped with a healthful bounty of bean sprouts, cucumber, and barbecued beef, is ideal if you’re looking for something chillier.

Key Differentiators:

  • Two Pho PHD locations within walking distance of each other
  • The beef is delicate, the broth is clear, and there aren’t too many shallots or onions in it
  • Serves a vermicelli noodle salad

Customer’s Review:

One of the best pho in Sydney! Soup wasn’t too strong and good quality of meat. Coconut juice was good and the pancake was top notch because it was crispy and tasty. Service was quick and customer service was nice.

This is claimed to be Sydney’s best pho. Phở TĂ u Bay, like many Vietnamese restaurants in Sydney, is family-owned and run for more than 20 years. The restaurant’s decor—vinyl-covered chairs, serviettes, spices and chopstick tubes—is simple, but the steaming bowls of pho. The thick broth is impressively transparent and well-balanced, and the seemingly endless supply of noodles will put you in a state of noodle bliss. Unfortunately, like most excellent things in Sydney, you’ll need to wait in line, so phở lovers should plan ahead.

Key Differentiators:

  • Family-owned and run for more than 20 years
  • Serves decent portion of pho
  • The thick broth is impressively transparent and well-balanced

Customer’s Review:

I finally got to try this place out! It was everything I hoped it would be. The pho was delicious and the service was great. I will definitely be back.
