This restaurant is a chill place that specializes in hoppers. Hoppers are bowl-shaped, savoury pancakes made of fermented rice flour and coconut milk batter with crispy, lattice edges and a soft doughy crumpet-like centre. If you’re looking for cheap, delicious curry then Faheem is the place for you. However, it’s not somewhere you would go on a date due to the lack of atmosphere and decor. The food is served in styrofoam boxes and the tables are plastic, but the chicken tikka masala is some of the best in Sydney.

Vikram Arumugam and his wife Preeti Elamaran are the proud owners of this establishment, and they love nothing more than explaining their menu in minute detail to curious customers. At Swagath Biryani House, if the mere sight of the huge portions of tandoori chicken pieces, slow braised goat on the bone and deep fried green chillis in the batter doesn’t make your eyes water from the spices, then definitely try their house-special Hyderabadi chicken biryani. I’ve eaten biryani in quite a few places in Sydney, and Swagath is probably the best of the lot. Authentic Andhra flavour and spice, plus an awesome selection of biryanis as well.
