Pretty tasty food! We ordered (via Uber Eats) the Sizzling Sisig, Rellenong Talong with Crab Meat and Pinakbet with Lechon Kawali. Portion was a little bit smaller than expected for the Rellenong Talong with Crab Meat but delicious regardless.

Sydney Cebu Lechon is a laid-back restaurant located halfway down Enmore Road, Newtown. The cuisine here is basic but delicious, with influences drawn from the island of Cebu – where the restaurant’s creators come from. The culinary delights of Cebu include lechon, a charcoal-roasted pork belly with a distinctive saltiness, as well as braised soy chicken known in the Philippines as humba, which is slow-cooked and infused with vinegar, soy sauce, and other ingredients.

Key Differentiators:

  • With a native Filipino vibe
  • Specializes in lechon and other Cebuano dishes
  • Extra-friendly hospitality

Customer’s Review:

Best Cebu Lechon in Sydney! Yes, it is quite salty because authentic Cebu lechon is like that. The lechon skin is super crunchy!! Great with their butter garlic rice and atchara. The pinakbet and pork bbq were great too! It is pricey but it is understandable because it is hard to roast a whole pig. I would come back again for sure.

The variety of meals on the ever-changing menu is amazing and includes Filo dishes like crispy pata, a slow-cooked and deep-fried pork knuckle, and kare-kare, which is made up of oxtail, eggplant, and beans in a thick peanut sauce.

First time for my family. The food was excellent: great variety and flavoursome. I loved the ambience. We went for the $30 all-you-can-eat which is great value. While this is not a fine-dining restaurant, the food is 5-star. We travelled across Sydney; north to south and we will be doing it again. Enjoy!!!

A boodle fight is the Filipino art of eating with your hands that isn’t performed with cutlery; don’t expect any silverware. Your table will be covered in fresh banana leaves, and the restaurant’s pleasant employees will stack it high with everything from crispy pata and fried milkfish with salted egg to spring rolls, grilled prawns, and vegetables.

Key Differentiators:

It’s a pretty good filo place. Yummy food, maybe the portions are a bit on the smaller side? The ambience is very simple, no real specialty. You really just come here if you want to eat filo food.

Websitehttps://www.descanso.com.au/
Phone+61 2 8018 5818
Emailinfo@descanso.com.au

Descanso is a one-trick horse that doesn’t specialize in anything. In fact, Descanso, which opened its doors in 2016, introduces Filipino breakfast to conventional Aussie café norms. On the one hand, they offer a range of Filipino breakfast foods known as silog, including sinangag (fried rice) and itlog (egg), while on the other, they provide a popular brekky spread such as the Big Breakfast. Tapsilog (cured beef), tosilog (sweet cured chicken), and longsilog, a Filipino-style pork sausage, are just a few of the meat dishes available.

Key Differentiators:

  • Offers Filipino-style pork sausage
  • Offers a range of filipino breakfast foods
  • A one-stop shop for all your filipino food cravings

Customer’s Review:

Always love finding a Filipino restaurant! The menu items definitely reminds me of home. Haven’t been disappointed with any Filipino menu item I’ve ordered. They also sell dishes in bulk as a frozen/cold pack to take home.

Rooty Hill, a busy Sydney suburb with a substantial Filipino population, should come as no surprise that there are a number of Filipino restaurants in the area. Mama Lor Restaurant & Bakery stands out for its barbecue dishes — which are at the very core and soul of Philippine street-food culture, as well as a variety of baked goods made onsite. On the barbecue, you may cook the inihaw na pusit, a grilled whole squid filled with onion and tomato, or the inihaw na liempo, a grilled marinated pork belly served with homemade barbecue sauce.

Key Differentiators:

  • Got many pre-packaged Filipino-style breads and pastries
  • Has a range of baked delights
  • Serves barbecue dishes

Customer’s Review:

I really like this place. Friendly service and tasty Filipino food. It’s definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area (I live 45 minutes away and it’s still worth it). Try the lechon kawali, or the lechon belly and the sisig is also great. If you need a reminder of the awesome food from the Philippines, then this is the place to go.

Another Rooty Hill favourite is this genuine little restaurant, which offers all of the classic dishes and a warm and pleasant atmosphere. Try the pork kare kare soup, a thick, savory peanut broth with vegetables, or the BBQ beef ribs – both are amazing. It’s simply no-fuss all-flavour Filipino cuisine that’s consistently wonderful.

Key Differentiators:

  • No-fuss all-flavour Filipino cuisine
  • Warm and pleasant atmosphere
  • Consistently wonderful dishes

Customer’s Review:

Had dinner here on a Saturday night with my friends. We came it past 8 PM (they close at 9 PM). The lady at the cashier wasn’t thrilled to see us but the lady who took our order was nice and jolly. That and the great food are the reasons I still rated this place 5 stars. Will definitely come back and bring some more friends here.

Lazza is always the perfect option for a traditional Filipino meal. They specialize in a Bilao feast, which is a large platter of eight entrees that’s ideal for sharing with friends. Choose from pork sisig, mussels, shrimp, and other grilled meats and veggies. Lazza is also a great place to try Bicol specialties, such as the Bicol Express (a stew with coconut, shrimp paste, and pork).

Key Differentiators:

  • Specializes in a Bilao feast
  • A great place to try Bicol specialties

This is the place to sample Halo halo, a variant of ice kacang made with condensed milk. In Philippine, “halo” implies “mixture,” therefore the combination of finely shaved ice, sweet beans, dulce de leche, jelly, and ice cream is really a “mix mix.” According to the rumors, the sisig – chopped-and-fried pig’s ear and jowl, combined with capsicum and onion – is also excellent, and they serve all-day breakfast.

Key Differentiators:

  • Serves Halo halo, a variant of ice kacang
  • Offers all-day breakfast
  • The sisig is excellent

Customer’s Review:

This is I believe one of the underrated Filipino restaurants in Sydney. If you are looking for a good all-day breakfast and want to reminisce about your childhood sweets like the Ice Scramble, then this is a must go-to place. Also, you will find one of the best La Paz batchoy in town. Way better than the flashy and expensive Filo restaurant across the street.
