There are no rolling carts of steamed buns on the menu, but if you’ve got those steamy cravings, Uncle Ming’s dumplings, spring rolls, and barbeque ginger chicken wings are well worth a try. You may also wash it all down with a couple of excellent cocktails and a house beer to calm your nerves.
Key Differentiators:
- Upbeat vibe
- Vegetarian options
- Great customer service
Customer’s Review:
I’m so glad I found this place! I have never been anywhere similar which makes it so unique. The dumplings and dim sims were delicious, we had to order more! The cocktails were great and so much variety plus the service was spot on.

2) East Ocean Restaurant
Key Service | Reasonable prices |
Address | Level 1, 421 – 429 Sussex Street, Haymarket NSW 2000 |
Website | https://www.eastocean.com.au/ |
Phone | 02 9212 1989 / 0482 056 370 |
booking@eastocean.com.au
Operating Hours | MONDAY TO THURSDAY 10:00-15:00 I 17:00-22:00 FRIDAY 10:00-15:00 I 17:00-23:00 SATURDAY 9:00-15:00 I 17:00-23:00 SUNDAY 9:00-15:00 I 17:00-22:00 |
On a chilly Tuesday night in Haymarket, you’ll find that this is a more peaceful option for mid-week dim sum. They are not in the business of hurrying you off, so one gent takes his time solving the crossword while happily eating tiny open-top portions of prawn and sweet corn. The duck pancakes, for example, do not hold back on the filling – a full palm-sized swatch of dark, juicy meat wearing a silver shield of crunchy skin.
Key Differentiators:
- Reasonable prices
- Peaceful ambience
- Polite and accommodating service
Customer’s Review:
Best Chinese I’ve had in a long time. Came here often when I was a kid 30yrs ago. Service and food quality was 10/10. The decor and ambiance is like 5* hotel. Absolutely lovely place to eat. Great value too.

3) Zilver
Key Service | Decent selection of food |
Address | Level G, 191 Hay St, Haymarket NSW 2000 |
Website | https://www.zilver.com.au/ |
Phone | (02) 9211 2232 |
info@zilver.com.au | |
Operating Hours | Lunch: Monday – Friday 10:00am – 3:30pm Saturday -Sunday 9:00am -3:30pm Dinner: Monday – Sunday 5:30am – 11:00pm |
Zilver’s name is efficiency. This long-standing first-floor eatery is quick to seat you, serve you, and accept payment – so there must be a lot of business lunches going on around us. When you’re near the kitchen, service is especially quick – they have trolley gridlock one point with two steamer trolleys, a fried cart, and a Chinese broccoli station, all of which served pre-cooked green bales under plastic lids rather than the hot pots that they plunge the veggies into as you wait.
Key Differentiators:
- Amazing services at reasonable price
- Decent selection of food
- Fast Service
Customer’s Review:
Really great yum cha experiences: will say one of my favourites. Dishes have a real freshness and the service was great: friendly and as you would expect quick. Just loved it.

4) East Phoenix
Key Service | Wide sets of menu |
Address | Shop 6001/188 Pitt St, Sydney NSW 2000 |

info@phoenixrestaurantsco.com.au
Operating Hours | Mon – Sun 11am – 3pm Tue – Sat 5:30pm – 9:30pm, Sun 5:00pm – 9:00pm |
The most elegant in this yum cha restaurant line may be found above the East Village Shopping Centre in Zetland, which is rather sleek. East Phoenix is so sharp that it almost seems like a workplace. There’s no kitsch here; they’re sticking to a tried-and-true black, white, and red color scheme. If you don’t want to alter the script, the steamer trolley with all of your favorite hits (prawn har gao, steam buns, siu mai) appears with surprising frequency.
Key Differentiators:
- Wide sets of menu
- Attentive servers
- Offers private rooms for group bookings
Customer’s Review:
A wonderful experience with amazing food and service that is reasonably price. Convenient location, parking with 2 hours free. Highly recommend.

5) The Dynasty
Key Service | Freshly prepared food |
Address | 26 Bridge Rd Belmore NSW 2192 Australia |
Website | https://canterbury.com.au/ |
Phone | +61 2 9704 7704 |

It’s worth a trip to the Canterbury League Club just to gape at the wonderful indoor rainforest in the foyer, which includes a waterfall, fake tiki torches, genuine indoor plants, and a lagoon. The Dynasty Chinese Restaurant is located behind it, where yum cha is served every day from 11am until 3pm on weekdays, or 10am every weekend, when reservations are required in the red dining room. There isn’t much of a trolley service.
Key Differentiators:
- Freshly prepared food
- Serves traditional Cantonese yum cha
- Friendly staff
Customer’s Review:
This is one of our favourite yum cha places in Sydney and we have been coming for years. The food is freshly prepared, tastes great and is reasonably priced. The service is friendly and polite. The restaurant is also very clean. Highly recommended if you are in the area.

6) Mr Wong
Key Service | Serves great cocktails |
Address | 3 Bridge Lane Sydney, NSW, Australia 2000 |
Website | https://www.facebook.com/mrwongsydney/ |
Phone | +61 2 9114 7317 |
Operating Hours | Monday: 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM 5:30 PM – 10:00 PM Tuesday: 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM 5:30 PM – 10:00 PM Wednesday: 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM 5:30 PM – 10:00 PM Thursday: 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM 5:30 PM – 10:00 PM Friday: 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM 5:30 PM – 11:00 PM Saturday: 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM 5:30 PM – 11:00 PM Sunday: 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM 5:30 PM – 10:00 PM |
Mr. Wong is a fantastic example of the Merivale group’s top chefs, Dan Hong, who created a contemporary and fresh interpretation of traditional yum cha in Sydney. This isn’t like anywhere else on the list because it contains plenty of classics with just a little variation to them. The prawn toast with foie gras and sesame is a wonderful illustration of that. But don’t worry, all of Mr. Wong’s lunchtime-only dim sum menu contains classics like barbecue pork buns, spinach dumplings, and silky cheung fun (rice noodle roll).
Key Differentiators:
- Serves vegetarian options
- Serves great cocktails
- Courteous staff
Customer’s Review:
Mr. Wong has got to be one of the best restaurants for whatever occasion. The food here was absolutely delicious and the portions did not disappoint. We had several doggy bags!!

The Eight is Sydney’s biggest Chinese restaurant, and it has one of the most diverse dim sum menus in Australia. They also have really nice trolley waitresses. To ensure that you always get the freshest and quickest service, get a table as close to the kitchen as possible. Their mango pancakes and har gows are delicious (steamed prawn dumplings).
Key Differentiators:
- Big servings
- Fresh food with lots of choices
- Plenty of trolleys
Customer’s Review:
Authentic, but expensive, as they come. As with any dim-sum place, carts roll by with a wide variety of choices and The Eight was no different. The food was warm, fresh and plentiful.

One of the best yum cha places I’ve been to! Every dish tasted so good and the mango sago at the end is a good finish to a meal.

This weekend yum cha place, which is located just adjacent to the Chinese Garden of Friendship, boasts a side of difficult-to-find urban serenity. Of course, Lotus can perform no wrong when it comes to cuisine. At The Gardens by Lotus, you can fill up on chicken and kimchi wontons, duck pancakes, and seven-spice calamari while enjoying the traditional favorites with a twist.

We had one of the banquets and honestly could not fault any of it. Every dish was so tasty, especially the oysters with yuzu dressing. Quality ingredients used and flavour profiles that everyone loved. Also the service we received was impeccable; friendly and efficient. And of course the atmosphere and ambiance is so tranquil, being inside the beautiful Chinese gardens. Definitely recommend coming here for an all-round amazing experience.

12) Bodhi
Key Service | Variety of dumplings |
Address | 2-4 College Street, Sydney 2000 |
Website | https://www.bodhirestaurant.com.au/ |

reservations@bodhirestaurant.com.au
Operating Hours | Lunch – Yum Cha Wednesday – Saturday 11am – 3pm Sunday 11am – 4pm Dinner – A La Carte Wednesday – Sunday 5pm – 10pm |
Bodhi is a hidden treasure plating up plant-based yum cha in the shade of fig trees near St Mary’s Cathedral. We enjoy the variety of dumplings with fresh vegetable fillings (green tea and choy sum, and carrot, broccoli, and ginger are favorites), but if you’re looking for a vegan replica of Bodhi’s “prawn” har gow, it’s an excellent imitation.
Key Differentiators:
- Vegan restaurant
- Variety of dumplings
- Serves fresh fruit desserts
Customer’s Review:
The food is absolutely amazing and the dishes are very diverse and special. The cocktails are top quality as well. The ingredients felt like really good quality and the preparation was on point. One star deduction because some of the staff wasn’t so polite. Not the new waiter though, who served us most of the time and who was very helpful and friendly.

13) Vinh Phat

Vinh Phat on Hughes Street, one of the finest and most popular Chinese restaurants in Cabramatta, provides an authentic and flavorful yum cha dining experience. Vinh Phat has been serving the Cabramatta community since 1985 as a Cantonese-style and dim sum restaurant. Cabramatta, located an hour west of Sydney, is a culinary melting pot that combines Vietnamese, Cambodian, Thai, and Chinese cuisines.
Key Differentiators:

Customer’s Review:
Delicious dimsum! The line is long but it moves quickly. We came on a Saturday afternoon and queued for about 30 mins. If you drive, it is recommended that you drop off your passengers to queue while you look for parking. It is quite tough to find parking on weekends there.

Star Capital Seafood Restaurant, located in Chatswood, is the second of three restaurants on this list of top Sydney yum cha restaurants. Star Capital Seafood Restaurant serves authentic Cantonese cuisine and yum cha dishes, as well as excellent Chinese tea. On busy Victoria Avenue, Capital Star is in a large enough space near Chatswood station. They aren’t the cheapest, but the food and service are of good quality.
Key Differentiators:
- Freshly cooked dim sum
- Plenty of dim sum selection
- Fast table service
Customer’s Review:
One of the few dim sum places remaining in northern Sydney. We were sat in a room away from crowded common area. I was worried we won’t get the dim sum carts coming by. The server assured me he would make sure we got all dishes we wanted, and we did! Good customer care. It was on the pricy side, but it seems to be the case for dim sum places.

16) Din Tai Fung
Key Service | Specialise in good quality Szechuan sauce |
Address | Locations |
Website | https://dintaifung.com.au/ |
Phone | Locations |
hello@dintaifung.com.au
Operating Hours | Locations |
The costs of dim sum are likely to be affordable to most individuals, although many people go for dumplings and xiao long bao because they contain a lot more filling than other types. If you’re looking for different types of food, I recommend going for Din Tai Fung if you don’t mind the hour-long wait on weekends. PIf you’re looking for something to fill your tummy, try the dim sum. If you find that it isn’t enough, order a plate of fried rice or la mian (handmade noodles) to go with it.
Key Differentiators:
- Specialise in good quality Szechuan sauce
- Serves good dumplings
- Has robot waiters
Customer’s Review:
Dined in here and the food was good. But what stand out was the service. The steamed bun that came out first on the robot was wrinkled and squahed. One of the wait staff saw it and said they will re make it as it was below standard.
Alex Chen
17) Hung Cheung
Key Service | Efficient service |
Address | 338 Marrickville Rd, Marrickville NSW 2204, Australia |
Website | https://hungcheung.com.au/ |
Phone | +61 2 9560 4681 |
Operating Hours | Daily 10AM–9:30PM |
In the inner West, there are a variety of brunch alternatives, and Hung Cheung is without a doubt one of the best. The service isn’t anything to write home about, but the quality and diversity of dim sum served here are outstanding.
Key Differentiators:
- Offers dishes for vegetarians
- Efficient service
- Good standard yum cha quality
Customer’s Review:
Lovely customer service from the team who were serving the food! Unfortunately the restaurant was slightly understaffed so sometimes when we asked for something such as soy sauce with chilli, we were forgotten! Tea does cost you $2 per head! Other than that, would visit again, the dishes were authentic and delicious and the food came out hot and immediately! Really loved the flavour of the tea as well!

The Vietnamese version of this iconic street food is available at one of the biggest yum cha restaurants in Cabramatta. When you’re in Sydney’s “Little Vietnam,” order a Vietnamese iced coffee, not a Chinese tea, instead. The siu mai, steamed dumplings (filled with pork, prawn, or vegetable) are all excellent and well prepared. If you’re in the mood for some fried or grilled food, try the roast pork belly (peking duck is only available on certain days) or fried calamari.
Key Differentiators:
- One of the largest yum cha restaurants
- Offers 10% off on weekends
- Wide variety of yum cha and specials
Customer’s Review:
Family favourite. Quite busy if you go at lunch time but the wait for a table is never too long. Good variety of dishes and quick service. One star off as I find the tastiness of the dishes are not always consistent on visits.

20) Golden Sands
Key Service | Solid line-up of rich and flavorful dishes |
Address | Shop 12, Level 2, 127-141 Forest Road Hurstville, NSW, Australia 2220 |
Website | https://www.facebook.com/goldensands88/ |
Phone | +61 2 9580 3188 |
Operating Hours | Daily 11:00 AM – 10:00 AM |
Golden Sands in the south-west, on the other hand, has a solid line-up of rich and flavorful dishes – including succulent pork ribs drenched in tasty gravy – but it gets high marks across the board. Pies with a glaze, spinach dumplings that are neatly pleated, and ham sui gok , those mince-stuffed football-shaped dough packets, are all golden and delicious. Line up for your favorite dish: consistently long.
Key Differentiators:
- Solid line-up of rich and flavorful dishes
- Serves a la carte dinner
- Spacious dining
Customer’s Review:
Have come here a lot since Sunny’s closed. It’s better quality but not the best value for money. Parking can get annoying but you’ll get a spot underground more often than not – particularly on weekdays.
