2021 was a busy year for new restaurant openings, with 2021 being particularly jam-packed. Ursula’s is one of the newest restaurants to open in between lockdowns, and it’s easily one of the finest. Begin with champagne mignonette oysters, mussel schnitzel, and local lobster salad with mango and XO.
Key Differentiators:
- Totally charming interiors

Customer’s Review:
One of the best dining experiences in Sydney. Especially bay bug pasta and chicken main dish was shockingly delicious! If I was a chef I’d been so jealous of your talent but thankfully I’m not so I could fully enjoy it.

The peaceful opening of the doors of their Potts Point fine diner Métisse occurred in mid-2019, when veteran chef Opel Khan, with his daughter Lucinda as sous chef, quietly opened the doors of his restaurant. Métisse is a unique secret in the Durbach Block Jaggers Barcelona structure, which was built with a beautiful oval-shaped dining room. Métisse is a true hidden treasure, thanks to Khan’s French-inspired degustation menu, which varies seasonally and is the product of exquisite culinary expertise.

This prominent Paddo hole-in-the-wall, ostensibly a wine bar, is focused on good times and delicious food from an Italian-Australian perspective. The drinks list, as you would expect, is the main attraction. A variety of high-quality bottles from all across the world make up the inventory. Consider Japanese Sake, Guatemalan Rum, and Wildflower table beers, as well as natural skin-contact orange wines from South Australia and Italian whites.
Key Differentiators:

- Good for small groups
Customer’s Review:
Nice little wine bar with a seasonal menu. Quite small so not ideal for big groups. The highlight was the pretzel & whipped bottarga and the mushroom pasta (this was my favourite dish). Be careful when entering and exiting the bathroom, I almost took a waiter out when I opened the door.

Botswana Butchery will be the most recent facet of Sydney’s steak scene in 2021. Botswana Butchery is the freshest addition to the city’s steak scene in 2021. The 300-seat restaurant is an import from New Zealand and Good Group hospitality—one of New Zealand’s top hospitality businesses. It’s also the centerpiece of Martin Place’s massive multi-million dollar makeover. - Over 1,000 wines
- Plush interiors
Customer’s Review:
Food was great but a little under temperature. We went on a Friday which felt very corporate or office-vibes. If you are out celebrating something more intimate, I would recommend a Saturday over a Friday. If good weather, ask for a table outside!

Operating Hours | Open Dinner Wednesday to Saturday |
Without gas or electricity in the kitchen, Firedoor prepares every dish with fire. The team, led by chef Lennox Hastie, cooks up a delectable smoke-filled selection of delicious smoked meats that changes daily using two wood-fired ovens and three grills. Key Differentiators:
- All dishes are cooked with fire
- Selection of smoked meats
- Family-run business
Customer’s Review:
Superb food and excellent service! All the dishes came out strong and, honestly, were all my favourites. We also added the 200/250g steak and it was cooked to perfection! That capsicum sauce with it was divine!

Chef Josh Niland caused a commotion in 2016 when he opened his first solo restaurant, which focused on reinventing seafood, at the age of 27. Key Differentiators:
- Innovative approach to seafood
- Australian-only raw materials
- Earning worldwide culinary acclaim
Customer’s Review:
What an exceptional place. The food was top quality and all things delicately considered, from the biggest (charcoal flat head) to the smallest (amazing biquinho peppers). Service was really lovely, and despite being close to others the spacing was just spread enough apart for conversations. Loved the experience.

As a result, only the finest of the best is served here. Pavoni has taken The Spit’s seafood emphasis and moved it to Ormeggio, where rustic dishes inspired by Italian farmland are served. Key Differentiators:

Customer’s Review:
Worth the wait, a group of 3 friends and I waited about 4 weeks for our reservation and it was definitely worth it. Just ordered the set menu and got 2 bottles of red wine and was reasonably priced. The food was incredible and experience 2nd to none. Live Jazz playing with that dim lighting creates an excellent atmosphere. Great service and food, great for a date spot, will be returning in the future.

Automata is a genuinely unique restaurant. Every month, reservations are opened and the tasting begins at $165 per person; nevertheless, if you can get in, the cuisine is excellent; exquisitely handcrafted morsels with just as much importance placed on appearance—and taste—as it does on presentation. Definitely have to reserve a table for 6 pax much in advance. The adults tried the $195pp tasting menu, and they created a 3-course kids specially for us. Food was nicely presented. Some dishes are great but some taste was above average only. Service was good.

Yes, it’s Westernized, but the tastes and quality are excellent.
Key Differentiators:
