3. STOMP
STOMP, the smash success on Broadway and in the West End, is returning! STOMP is a physical theater performance unlike any other since it combines acrobatics, objects, rhythm, and percussions. The artists utilize everything from brooms to boots to the kitchen sink to create an amazing show with an equally electrifying rhythm. Stomp delivers a very distinctive kind of theater to Singapore with brand-new choreography and music!
4. Muswell Hill
A couple from the upper middle class invites their friends over for dinner. Although the chats are brief and meaningless, the secrets come to light as the evening goes on. The passive-aggressive relationship between the couple, is a blind date between a neurotic and an eccentric. A natural calamity occurs in another part of the planet, devastating the entire community. You’ll quickly recognize that the play is a parody, highlighting the blatant ignorance and first-world issues that some of us lament.
5. The LKY Musical
The LKY Musical is prepared to perform in September as the first significant musical to do so in Singapore’s Sands Theatre following the pandemic. In the musical, Mr. Lee Kuan Yew’s life will be chronicled from his school years to Singapore’s independence in 1965. Featuring music by Dick Lee, starring Adrian Pang as Lee Kuan Yew and Kit Chan as Kwa Geok Choo.
6. Forbidden City: Portrait of an Empress
This musical, which was created by Stephen Clark, Dick Lee, and Steven Dexter, is without a doubt the ultimate crowd-pleaser in musical theatre. Due to great demand, the performance, which made its debut in 2002, was rerun in 2003, 2006, and 2017 and enjoyed a prosperous world tour in 2008. Forbidden City: Portrait of an Empress, which has exquisite oriental sets and costumes, centers on Kit Chan’s portrayal of China’s famed Empress Dowager Cixi and the sinister secrets that surround her.
7. Beauty World
A coming-of-age tale about a small-town girl whose search for her father takes her to an unexpected location, Beauty World pays homage to the black and white aesthetics of ’50s Cantonese cinema and the scene grabs of Chinese soap operas. Despite these inspirations, the musical keeps loyal to the Singapore voice by including Singlish in its screenplay along with other local and regional idioms. This musical by Michael Chiang, revived in 2008, is also regarded as one of Singapore’s very first musicals.
8. Quasimodo, A Musical Story
The big hit Quasimodo, A Musical Story, which debuted precisely three years after the Notre Dame Cathedral fire, takes us to lovely Paris. The hunchbacked cathedral bell ringer Quasimodo is depicted in the musical adaptation of Victor Hugo’s 1831 novel. So, you already know the rest. Director Nathalie Ribette, actors George Chan, Hossan Leong, Joash Zheng, Vanessa Kee, and others bring the mesmerizing drama to life.
9. The Sound of Music
The hills are resonating with music! This November, Maria and the Von Trapp Family will be performing in the return of The Sound of Music. The Von Trapp family and their governess Maria are the subjects of this family musical, which launches its brand-new international tour in Singapore’s theaters. The Sound of Music, which is based on Maria Von Trapp’s 1949 autobiography and includes a number of well-known songs and a touching tale, is ideal for a family outing.
10. New World’s End
Looking for an alternative to your typical stage performance of a play? OH! A multimodal audio-guided tour of Jalan Besar is included in New World’s End, Open House’s newest permanent immersive art installation. Choose your headphones, and get ready to be transported to a new world as you stroll down Jalan Besar and listen to an intriguing mix of fiction and history about the famous New World Amusement Park. As a romance tale (spoken by Salif Hardie and Moira Loh) develops, you’ll meander via dark passageways and hidden rooms while listening to a soundtrack created by the band NADA.
