Had a great night catching up with friends at Shukuu Izakaya. The charcoal grilled selections were well flavoured, smoky and juicy. Definitely get the meatballs! We found the Mackerel a bit too fishy for our tastes. Overall, it was a satisfying meal 🙂

You’ll be delighted to learn about the new exquisite boutique bar in the same building, Kakure, which specializes in fine Japanese cuisine. This bar is intended for people who enjoy sake due to its dim lighting and soft leather seats, and it’s located on top of the contemporary Japanese restaurant Ki-Sho. You are spoiled for choice when you visit as the sake is simple yet sophisticated, and it’s available in a variety of flavors. Because each of the sakes is only available once, not everyone will get to try all of them, giving you bragging rights. The Kakure’s home sake, the Tatenokawa Junmai Daiginjo, is a delicate, fragrant beverage with an aftertaste similar to that of fruits.

If you go to this restaurant in person, expect selection paralysis. Their menu is larger than what’s displayed on their website, so be prepared if you ever visit. However, with the pleasant ambience, you may simply sit back and enjoy your meal without being pressured by anyone. They also have distinct dishes such as a trio Japanese cheese dish that contains flavors including smoked radish, miso-marinated, and crab butter. Each flavor is unique in texture as well, providing more options. In addition to the shiitake mushrooms, this soup also has okra and pickled radish. The dashi stock is made with kombu, bonito, and mackerel rather than soy or miso. Their oden is often served cold and includes mustard.

The waitress is steady and professional, introducing us a nice sake – Tattenokawa for beginners! The sake has a smooth texture and a bit sweet. We ordered Omakase Oden, Kaisendon and Assorted Sashimi for sharing, the food are really fresh and delicious. It’s all about the 鲜, will try the udon and 2/3 course omakase oden next time!

Would you like to try over 100 different types of sake and shochu, as well as some genuine Japanese cuisine? Then Donpachi is the place for you! The kaki oil zuke, which is a marinated oyster with salmon roe, is a good choice whether you choose to sit at the counter, grab a table. There are several primary courses, such as grilled mackerel and teriyaki beef steak. Sushi and sashimi, of course, are two popular rice dishes.
The restaurants also offer “ultimate meal-time sake,” Hakurakusei. Because of the high demand and small-scale handmade production, it is challenging to obtain because it is designed to be paired with food. It will taste better the more you drink it, thanks to its smooth flavor and little touch of umami. You may try three distinct polishing ratios at Dosukoi Donpachi. Why not take advantage of this rare sake opportunity?

You may have it at the counter seats or outside with a canopy, ranging from casual to premium brands. It’s definitely an ideal location to spend some time. Operating Hours: | MON – FRI 12.00 – 14.30 18.00 – 23.00 SAT, SUN & PH 18.00 – 23.00 |
You could be a little perplexed to locate this lovely restaurant, which is tucked away in the heart of Telok Ayer near the Amoy Street Food Centre, given its location on a heritage shophouse. The payoff will be worth it, for Kabuke combines the art of kabuki with the intrigue of high-quality Japanese sake. Whether you’re a novice or an expert on sake, there’s something for everyone in Kabuke.
It’s a fantastic Izakaya to spend some time with buddies over fantastic meals and gain a thorough knowledge on sake varieties, grades, and regions while relaxing. Char siu, chicken skin, and baby corn are some of the snacks that will go well with their sakes. Their wagyu (a type of meat) bowl is also something special: they stuff it with items like scallop, rice, foie gras, and omelette.
Key Differentiators:
- Provides sake-tasting flight
- 50-seater Sake gastrobar

Customer Review
Kabuke is definitely a must-visit if you are into quality wagyu bowls and amazing sake!
This place has a hospitable service crew and a wide array of exquisite sake at affordable prices. I would highly recommend a visit and a sake flight at this local hidden gem.
