Best Omakase Singapore
Best Omakase Singapore

It is well known that omakase is a type of Japanese meal where the chef decides what sushi and sashimi to serve.

Omakase is a traditional Japanese food served in omakase restaurants. Omakase means “to leave it to the chef” and typically includes an assortment of dishes chosen by the chef, who will balance delicacies with something more substantial. It’s also known as Chef’s Choice or Chef’s Menu. The word omakase can be translated as “I’ll leave it up to you.”

But, if you’re not in Japan, how do you know which omakase restaurants in Singapore are worth trying? It can be tough to find high-quality omakase when there are so many options available. Luckily for you, we’ve done the research!

In this blog post, we’ll share 21 Best Omakase Restaurants in Singapore that serve delicious and authentic omakase dishes.

Key Consideration Factors

  • Service Quality: The service should be attentive and polite. The waitstaff should be knowledgeable about the menu and able to make recommendations.
  • Quality of service: As you don’t want your dining experience to fail following a few days, you must assess the quality of ingredients used for the meals.
  • Price: Make sure to comparison shop between the various restaurants, so you can secure the most advantageous bargain.
  • Reputation: When looking for a reliable restaurant, one with an established reputation is the best option. These shops often excel in customer service and utilize superior ingredients so that food is memorable.
  • Food Menu: A good restaurant menu should offer a variety of savory and sweet dishes, as well as a selection of drinks.
  • Reviews: Researching reviews from previous customers is a great way to evaluate the level of service, as well as comprehend if the restaurant can be trusted.

Shinji by Kanesaka is a well-known sushi restaurant in Singapore, and it has received numerous critical accolades outside of Japan.

The most expensive option is the Omakase Shin, which includes appetizer, premium sashimi, cooked dishes, sushi, soup, and Japanese fruit.

The next level up, the Omakase Wa includes ‘ordinary’ sashimi instead of the “premium” variety. If splurging is a problem, there’s an Edomae Sushi set with 15 nigiri.

The pinkish Chutoro (medium fatty tuna) is so fresh it might actually slide down the throat, Otoro (tuna belly) has a wonderful sirloin taste, and again Akami (red meat), which had almost a tuna-like texture.

Customer’s Testimony

Excellent and attentive customer service. Food is of great quality, fresh and taste divine. Highly recommend.

Mizuya (水屋) reflects the great effort put in by the Head Chef, Kenny with more than 22 years of experience in preparing the dishes served on the diner’s plate – the creativity, flavours and the textures. With an Omakase menu that changes with seasonal offerings, every visit to Mizuya is a new one.

Fresh seafood is air-flown from Japan 3-4 times each week so savour from the freshest prime seasonal ingredients paired with an amazing chorus of curated whiskies.

Previously known as Southpaw Bar & Sushi, Mizyua continues to be probably the only Omakase restaurant in Singapore where it’s omakase is paired with whisky pairings instead of Sake.

With the overwhelming support from the diners, they have recently opened a new outlet at Orchid Hotel, Tanjong Pagar, a place that’s no stranger for good Japanese cuisine restaurants.

It’s definitely one of the best omakase restaurants in Singapore!

Key Differentiators

  • Seasonal produce are flown in 3 – 4 times a week to allow their diners enjoy the freshness of the produce and what’s available during specific periods of the year.
  • Well-known for unique whisky pairings with their curated omakase instead of the usual sake.
  • Personalised and stellar homely service of the crew makes one enjoyable and chilled at their place, treating you like a very close friend.
  •  Affordable omakase with a 20 course starts from $138++ – value for money!

Customer’s Testimony

Chef Kenny san served us three times in a span of a month. Ingredients are fresh, perfectly paired, and meticulously aged. We especially love the addictive signature smoked albacore wrapped with a crisp nori. The omakase-only menu is good value and you can opt for the dinner version during lunch if you want to splurge a little. Try their homemade ume wine too; it’s prepared a year in advance from ume season in June. We are taking a break for a while so we can try new seasonal stuff next time. Go say hi to Chef Kenny for us! This location is new for them and I’m glad the hubby stumbled on it randomly even if the first visit was with another woman (ex-colleague)

Chef Hamamoto, the proprietor of Ki-sho, was formerly head chef at Kyoto’s top culinary establishments and one of Singapore’s best restaurants.

Along Scotts Road, the lovely Ki-sho is housed in a magnificent colonial mansion with a 10-seater sushi bar and various private rooms adorned with distinctively artistic Japanese features such as hand-laid flooring and gold leaf wallpaper.

Japanese cuisine at the superb establishment is available in two distinct Omakase set menus priced at a couple hundred per person.

This isn’t the cheapest restaurant in town, but it’s not far off. We can see why it stands out when compared to other top-tier Japanese restaurants available locally.

The most appealing and indulgent dish was the Uni and Cavier, which included creamy Hokkaido sea urchin, exquisite Italian caviar, shiso flower, and corn on a wasabi leaf. It looked like the ecstatic blossoming of flowers in Japan during springtime

Customer’s Testimony

An interesting omakase featuring quite a bit of uni.

My favourites were the grilled unagi, uni sushis as well as aburi-ed ootoro and toriyama wagyu. Chef also uses 2 different type of shari for different neta.

Masaaki Sakashita, a Kyoto-raised chef who has worked with Ishi and Hashida Sushi, is in charge of the kitchen.

The eatery is designed by Takenouchi Webb, who has blended contemporary style with oriental opulence. Consider a soft pink Gucci wallpaper with lovely white crane images, a cascading wave of washi papers hanging from the ceiling, and a wood counter carved entirely from 250-year-old hinoki for an example of modern design combined

Each dish at Sushi Masaaki is a manifestation of chef Masaaki’s abilities and Japanese culinary philosophy.

Sit at the counter for a visual treat of the open kitchen. You’ll be able to observe live crabs interacting with the fire in the charcoal hearth, as well as sushi making’s intricate craft.

Customer’s Testimony

Exceptional experience. Quality ingredients matched with perfect execution by Chefs Masaaki and Satoshi. Service is faultless with Timothy and team. A definite place to go if you want quality food, great service and interesting tableware (like the ebony wood chopsticks with silver and kagami crystal glasses).

Stunning dinner. Every element was so thoughtful and considered, and artfully arranged. Quality was excellent and service top-notch. I’m not keen on nor have tried fish liver but what I tasted here was absolutely delicious. What’s interesting is how much we loved the sushi rice which is chewier and prepared with aged vinegar. It truly elevated the seafood. Can’t wait to return!

This is a fantastic spot to visit if you’re looking for an unrivalled Japanese dining experience.. The owners of the Feather Blade, another superb restaurant, have brought us this 36-seat restaurant, where handroll sushi omakase dining is available at reasonable rates.

The 20-meter-long quartz bar in this industrial-chic setting is a perfect spot to enjoy a six-course sushi meal. Ingredients such as tuna belly, fluke fin, and amberjack are likely to show up.

Of course, the experience won’t be completed without sake or any Japanese-inspired cocktails too!

Customer’s Testimony

Absolutely LOVED this place. The concept is really smart and the venue nice. Now, when it comes to the food – don’t overthink it, just get the 6roll menu + the sake pairing, add some extras if you’re starving but keep room for dessert. Their cookie is one of the best desserts We had in Singapore.

definitely a great date place if you want to impress – menu (including alcoholic drinks) is affordable, the staff is amazing, and it’s definitely a new, refreshing experience compared to most restaurants in the area. Will go back for more.

Located in the heart of Downtown, Takayama Japanese Restaurant is a multi-course restaurant that serves a variety of authentic Japanese delights.

This is a “kappo-style” restaurant, similar to a Keiseki meal where intricately prepared dishes that resemble works of art are served.

Chef Takayama is a veteran of three Michelin-starred restaurants Kashiwaya and Koryu in Osaka, both of which have earned prestige in their fields.

The “Otsukuri” is the second dish to look forward to. While it simply means sashimi, I was served a combination of expertly curated ingredients with a couple of additions – each item meticulously arranged and paired with distinct soy sauces to get an umami flavor.

It’s definitely one of the best omakase restaurants in Singapore!

Customer’s Testimony

I love the food and the service over there. The chefs and waitresses were welcoming and polite and the ambiance was comfortable and cozy. The food was extremely delectable and delicious; the chawanmushi were sweet (sea urchin) and savory (egg with grass jelly). Sashimi was fresh and the wasabi was handmade so the whole quality of the sashimi was good. Lastly, the deserts were delicious, especially the matcha baked cake, I love that because it was not too sweet.

My whole experience over there was memorable and great, I will definitely go there again!

The omakase menu was also interpreted with a range of culinary delights using seasonal ingredients, and we guarantee you that you couldn’t wait for the next omakase course to arrive. A genuinely exceptional experience in sync.

However, it is very tough to get a seat in the restaurant so advance reservations are highly encouraged.

Dinner: 18:00-22:30 (Last seating at 20:30)

Sushi Kou is a new style of sushi that redefines Edomae-style sushi, in which the freshest fish and shellfish are prepared with minimal treatment. This method brings out the food’s natural tastes and oils, unlike other methods of sushi making.

Sushi Kou is a restaurant in Singapore with the same name as its founder’s son, Kou. Chef Yoshio Sakuta, who has 20 years of expertise, runs the place with the aim of offering something completely new to his customers. This Hokkaido-born chef worked at several star sushi businesses in Sapporo.

There is only one session for lunch and dinner, so it’s crucial to book ahead. To guarantee that guests receive complete attention and high-quality meals, there is just one table per session. Yes, that’s how in demand this restaurant is!

In one of their dishes, the abalone is meticulously cooked for around 5 hours in a Japanese stone pot which is also cooked in a closely watched heat

Customer’s Testimony

Very upscale refined establishment, hard to reserve venue. But all is worth the wait and effort. Food is superb as better than most Japanese sushi spot in Japan itself. Service is excellent. They are posh on pricing, two can expect to spend at least a thousand dollars here after food & drinks especially if order sake or wine. After all the alcohol pairing will be worth the meal, leaving full satisfaction and closest you can get to Japan experience in Singapore when you can’t travel due to CoVid19 restrictions.

After winning a Michelin star in Singapore, Ginza Sushi Ichi went on to greater prominence and fame.

Ginza Sushi Ichi, a branch of the award-winning Tokyo restaurant Ginza Sushi Ichi run by 34-year-old executiveChef Masakazu Ishibashi, more popularly known as Masa, is a tiny intimate restaurant.

He grew up in a family of sushi restaurant owners, and he takes pleasure in offering his visitors exquisite sushi.

The restaurant’s interior is comparable to that of a high-end sushi eatery, with the sushi chefs creating meals in full view of guests at a counter constructed from 200-year-old cypress trees.

The restaurant’s specialty is tuna and sea-urchin. Only the freshest selections of the season are provided to guests since items are purchased directly from Japan and flown in four to five times a week.

Customer’s Testimony

one of the top sushi restaurant in Singapore and definitely worthy of its Michelin star. Everything was immaculate from service to food. My glass was never at any point empty; the service staff made sure that all 8 of us always had our glasses with wine/sake. I really like their nodoguro and kamatoro. Only thing if I were to have any complaints about is their sake. The list is not very comprehensive, and mostly of the same type of profile; aromatic, elegant and sweet (to varying degree). Also their mark up for their sake is pretty staggering too. Like for example the nabeishima cost about S$80 retail but it’s just under S$300 in their menu. Even if I go to a similar standard restaurant like kisho, I think they probably no more than S$200.

Overall, I’d say food is exquisite and well worth its price tag but I will go easy on the beverage.

They offer different choices of menu, including a 5-course dinner offered with the most exquisite seafood partnered with Wagyu beef and topped with smoked caviar. Of course, miso soup and other appetizers are included in this set

Customer’s Testimony

Japanese fine dinning available only for dinner,, an experience on the different flavours within each dish. For lunch, they have sets like their delicious bento.

For any first timer, the waiter can give a good recommendation based on the number of diners. Don’t be mistaken for the small portion, the idea is not to fill your stomach, but to experienced each of the order you’ve made, so be prepared to make a few orders. It is somewhat like the Japanese version of Spanish tapas.

And we have since went back again and again. These are Japanese finery to be experience.

Pricing are above average for this very fine dinning. Very satisfying. Enjoy!

Chef Shigeru Kasajima, the kitchen’s chef, draws on his French culinary training to create uncommon dishes utilizing Japanese influences.

You may frequently find him at the intimate omakase dining room, where you can observe his skills and have conversations about the meal he is preparing for you.

Customer’s Testimony

Finally a review after multiple visits. Fat Cow never disappoints. I’m a beef/steak lover and I can say Fat Cow ranks number 1 for me. I will normally try different cuts for each visit – and each time, they tasted heavenly. I only wish the price point wasn’t as steep, so I can eat it more often. But other than that, they obviously deserve a 5 star rating for their food!

Customer’s Testimony

Went on a Saturday night for dinner in April. Had the 10 course Omakase menu. It was not too crowded with good spacing and we were seated at the counter. Quality of the food was good and really fresh. Not cheap but reasonable for what was given. The Japanese chef was friend and service from the staff was good. Pleasant evening and overall positive experience. Will go back.
